Case Study

Online Child Protection

As digital connectivity continues to expand across Africa, MTN is committed to helping children stay safe, informed, and empowered online. Through initiatives such as Help Children Be Children and the Room of Safety campaign, we support child-centred digital safety programmes that protect young people from online harm while enabling them to learn, connect, and participate confidently in the digital world.

In alignment with the African Union Child Online Safety and Empowerment Strategy, MTN works with governments, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, and global experts such as the Internet Watch Foundation to strengthen child online protection across the continent. These partnerships are helping to build coordinated responses, improve awareness, and support practical tools that make it easier to identify and report harmful online content.

A key part of this work is the support of national and continental reporting platforms that allow the public to confidentially and anonymously report child sexual abuse material and other harmful online content. By enabling safe reporting, these platforms help authorities and specialist organisations act more quickly to identify, disrupt, and remove harmful material, reducing the risk of further exploitation.

By combining technology, trusted partnerships, digital literacy, and youth-centred engagement, MTN is contributing to safer and more inclusive digital spaces where every child can explore, learn, and thrive securely.
