Roaming is a service that allows our prepaid and postpaid customers to enjoy uninterrupted Calls, SMS and Data with their MTN numbers while travelling abroad.

Customers enjoy staying connected to family, friends and businesses back home with uninterrupted voice, SMS and data.

  • Prepaid – A customer pays for the roaming services before activating the service.
  • Post-paid – A customer applies for the services and is invoiced after a month’s billing cycle.

Postpaid customers on the MTN network with a positive credit history qualify for this service.

MTN has a vast network of roaming partners in different countries where this service is activated. Please refer to the attached list of countries.

6. How do I onboard on to MTN Postpaid Roaming? 6. How do I onboard on to MTN Postpaid Roaming?

Request for MTN Postpaid Roaming activation on your line before travelling, by sending an email to your postpaid account manager specifying the services needed (Voice and SMS, or Voice and SMS and Data). You will be required to make a UGX 2 million security deposit.

The MTN Postpaid Roaming service supports both postpaid billing plans and prepaid billing plans.
Postpaid Billing Plans
Enjoy uninterrupted voice calling, SMS, and data services, and pay the bill at the end of the month. A credit limit is applied on the postpaid roaming account.

Roaming is a premium service with premium rates subject to currency conversions in the roaming destination. The charges applied on Voice (per minute), SMS (per unit), and Data (per MB) are available here. Charges vary by MTN’s roaming partner across the different destinations.

Yes. You can request for a credit limit adjustment on your MTN Postpaid Roaming service by sending an email to your postpaid account manager specifying the new credit limit that is needed.

An invoice for postpaid usage is generated and delivered every month to your official address. Conveniently pay using the MTN MoMo App (select the MTN bills tab), or by dialing *165*48# on your phone and use mobile money, or by a bank deposit on the MTN account.

Pre-paid customers must load airtime and purchase any existing roaming bundles before travel via USSD *100*2*6# or via the MyMTNApp.

There are different bundles priced from as low as UGX 15,000 for the different destinations as per the below. To activate a bundle of your choice, please dial *100*2*6# or via the MyMTNApp.

No, a customer must activate the roaming service on their device first. Check the settings of your phone to have this switched on to enjoy the service.

Customers are advised to load enough airtime before travelling using the existing channels via USSD *165#, MOMO App and 3rd party agents.

MTN Roaming customers can make Calls or send SMS by simply adding the country code and then the number to be contacted. Eg +256772 XXXXXX, +49 XXXXXXXXX

Customer should dial *125*1# to see roaming partners then do a manual search to get the available roaming networks.

You will only be able to enjoy data roaming services in areas where LTE is enabled.
