The MTN Foundation has partnered with various entities including learning institutions, public Libraries, and other selected community institutions to improve on the access and increase enrolment of ICT education e.g., prisons and community centres in setting up fully connected ICT Resource Centres across Uganda.

Some of the ICT Resource Centres setup include the Kampala Capital City Authority, Mbale, Masaka, Koboko and Kabarole Public Libraries, Murchison Bay Prison and Mukono Community and 16 additional resource centres located in institutions of learning including Kawotto Primary School, Uganda Technical College Kichwamba, National Teachers College Muni, Uganda Technical College Lira, Hornby Secondary School Kabale, Shimoni Core Primary Teachers College and Busoga High School.

The MTN Foundation has also donated computers and internet connectivity to primary schools through the “ICT Clubs for Primary School” initiative. The project which had been piloted in Kampala has seen beneficiaries, Bat Valley Primary School, Buganda Road Primary School, Kiswa Primary School, Kitante Primary School, and Nakasero Primary School.

In partnership with Enabel a Belgian Development Agency, the Foundation has set up six computer labs in vocational institutes that include Amelo VTI Adjumani, St Daniel Comboni Polytechnic Moroto, Kasese Youth Polytechnic, Uganda Technical College Kyema Masindi, St Simon Peter VTI and Millennium VTI in Hoima.

Recently the Foundation has set up three ICT labs at MTN Girls with Tools in Wakiso, Moroto Public Library and Kabale Preparatory School.

At MTN we believe that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, hence the MTN Foundation introduced the first-ever MTN Internet Bus initiative. The initiative is aimed at bridging the digital divide between rural and urban communities provides real time ICT training for leaners, teachers, and various community members in hard-to-reach places across Uganda. To date more than 46,000 learners and teachers have benefitted from this project through computer and Internet education.

In 2022, MTN Foundation in partnership with Maendeleo Foundation conducted 10 digital literacy camps in all regions of Uganda and covered 10 districts and trained 1,325 women and youth in the peri-urban and rural communities. They were trained in basic computer skills, internet exploration and google tools such search, locations, weather forecast and email communication.

School Infrastructure Programme

To create more space for the ever-increasing number of primary school leavers, PEAS entered a partnership with MTN Uganda Foundation. The partnership saw MTN commit to construction of classroom blocks in schools since 2017. Through the partnership the Foundation reaches 3,188 beneficiaries annually in the 19 supported schools located 14 districts of Amuria, Bugiri, Busia, Kabarole, Ibanda, Isingiro, Katakwi, Kamwenge, Lamwo, Luwero, Mayuge, Mpigi, Serere, and Wakiso districts.

Recently the Foundation supported the completion of a Sick Bay in Kashaka Girls School Bushenyi district.
